How To Shampoo

How to shampoo seems like a trick, right? How could something so simple go wrong? Let me tell you, I’ve seen enough scalps to verify that most of us were given the wrong advice on how to cleanse our hair and scalp. From not shampooing frequently enough, to not taking enough time to do it well, we’ve been missing out on one of the easiest pathways to a healthy scalp and flourishing growth. Check out the post I made for instagram, and then scroll down for my favorite cleansers.

The List

Clarity Hairbath by Innersense. I love this shampoo for fine hair because it's free from heavy oils and conditioning agents, but is gentle enough for daily use. Bonus points for it being microbiome friendly, and hypoallergenic. This brand is super concentrated, meaning you can use 40% less than your current shampoo.

Microstimulating Hairbath by OWAY. For anyone dealing with excessive shedding, thinning, or hair that feels limp and lackluster. This shampoo is packed with Buddleja Davidii Plant Stem Cells, Densiplant, and Horse Chestnut to help reproduce cells, stimulate growth, and strengthen the hair bulb. This helps reduce shedding, and regrow stagnant hairs. Allow the lather to soak into the scalp for five minutes to absorb the active ingredients.

Color Awakening Hairbath by Innersense. The Goldilocks of cleansers. Not too heavy, not too light, and perfect for all hair types, even if you don't color your hair. I love the bright aroma from Orange and Tangerine essential oils, and honey extract keeps the cuticle layer smooth and protected.

Soothing Hairbath by OWAY. The smell alone is enough to want to huff it in your shower daily. Its sweet, slightly spicy, with herbaceous undertones of fennel. This cleanser is meant for soothing eczema, psoriasis, or anyone who suffers from scalp discomfort and redness. Let the lather soak in for 5 minutes to let the Biodynamic Fennel, Helichrysum, and Chamomile extracts soothe your skin.

Purifying Hairbath by OWAY. Dry flaky scalp can be uncomfortable and embarrassing, no thanks to all of those dandruff shampoo ads we saw in the 90's. Formulated with Biolin, a probiotic that counters dandruff causing bacteria and fungi by increasing the "good" bacteria on your scalp. This powerhouse also contains Biodynamic Rosemary oil to kill bad bacteria, Organic Willow Bark extract to soothe inflammation, and Almeth, and amino acid that aids in moisturizing the skin and hair.  Allow the lather to soak into the scalp for five minutes to absorb the active ingredients.

Sebum Balance Hairbath by OWAY. Sebum (oil) helps regulate the PH of your scalp, but if your scalp overproduces oil you can create an environment that causes itching, odors, and greasy hair. Formulated with Biodynamic Sage, Euphrasia, and Bugbane extracts, this shampoo gently yet effectively calms overactive sebaceous glands, and reduces inflammation and itching. Ethically sourced Teak and Mahogany are natural antibacterial agents used in Ayurvedic traditions, that remove unpleasant scalp odors. Allow the lather to soak into the scalp for five minutes to absorb the active ingredients.

Need help scrubbing, or want a boost of gentle exfoliation? I live by these super soft, environmentally friendly shampoo brushes from Love Attack! After applying your shampoo, place the brush against your scalp and gently scrub back and forth. For best results, pick up the brush and move it to each section instead of trying to "brush" your hair, to avoid tangling. The massage will boost blood flow, and help break up dandruff and product residue. If you need to retire your brush, pull off the silicone bristles, and place the handle in your municipal compost bin.

Want to skip the shipping? You can order any of these for local pickup.
